At the end of what what was perceived of as an unusually long negotiation, team officials announced today that the widely publicized bargaining sessions between the team and inside linebacker London Fletcher have concluded successfully.
Fletcher confirmed the news via his Twitter account. “Redskins fans your captain is back! #HTTR # Resign59, he tweeted. The soon to be 37 year old Fletcher led the league in tackles last season, and is widely regarded by team members as the lynchpin of the defense. His reputation as a locker room leader is unquestioned.
Speculation abounded during the seeming delay in talks with Fletcher. Was the severe 36 million dollar salary cap penalty imposed by the league going to prohibit his re-signing?
Shanahan made it clear that the team wanted the seemingly ageless linebacker back in the lineup and ready to go in 2012. “ I’ve said this from day one,” the coach said recently, “London is a team leader, a great player, and we want him back.” Another really solid victory for the recently successful front office of the Washington Redskins.

Welcome home, London.
Maybe he’ll let us stay with him if we’re in town for the game.
